A Year in Review, 2009

We've launched more than 20 games for clients such as Sega and Disney, grown our team with more wonderful people and started to launch our own games content on a variety of platforms.
Here's a few highlights some of the things we've been upto this year!
January

The launch of the Brain Excercise website , Facebook app and Viral game for Namco, giving players the opportunity to try the game online and submit scores from the mobile version of the game to be displayed on the web.

January also turned into MANuary at Mediatonic, with a large proportion of the office growing beards to raise money for the Alzheimers society.
February

In February it snowed. A lot. We made a giant snowman outside our office. We also visited Hamburg for the Casuality conference and launched several games.

Peu-Peu! , our multiplayer Flash game was completed, we spent many lunchtimes in February and March battling in deathmatches for office supremacy. We also launched several new games on SEGAs PlaySega website including Columns, Music Quiz and SEGA Pool.
March

Avast! March saw the release of many more games including The Quest for Brickbeards Bounty for Lego and Katapult Katastrophe for Disney.

March also saw us return to San Francisco for the game developers conference and establish regular film and board game nights at Mediatonic. Over the past year we've been exploring a variety of games such as Tomb, Catan, Caylus, Ticket to Ride, Werewolf, Agricola and many more....
April

Oh Hai! April also saw the launch of Meowcenaries, our lolcat based shooter for Adultswim. This was one of our largest games to date with 20 huge levels and over 1,000 animations.

This teaser image from Must.Eat.Birds was one of the first things we posted on our Twitter when it launched in April featuring our latest news, teaser images and updates of what's going on at Mediatonic. It also allows us to talk directly to people who play our games which is very exciting!
May

Rev your engines! May saw the release of our Fast & Furious Facebook application on Facebook, timed to launch alongside the film. The game has been doing great and we've since ported it to MySpace and added several new features.


Several of our games were picked out as some of the best free games on the web over at 1up - it's always great to hear about people enjoying our games!
May also saw the release of Amateur Surgeon on the iPhone, the first Adult rated game on the device it garnered some great reviews and hit the top 10 charts all over the world. We also some new members of staff in the form of Jeff as a new producer and Vicki as our new intern.
June

June was an exciting month for us, we launched our first original iPhone title, Must.Eat.Birds! The game was very well received, featured by Apple as a staff favourite and had great reviews on many of the top iPhone news sites.

June also saw us head our to New York to speak at the iPhone Developer Summit and the launch of the second half of Meowcenaries on Adultswim, with 10 new levels climaxing in a giant battle with Dungeon Cat!
July

In July we gave away a years supply of Battenburg to celebrate the launch of Must.Eat.Birds and ate cake almost every day due to the number of birthdays in the office.

We were down in Brighton to speak at the Develop conference on games converging in the online space and also bid a fond farewell to two of our placement students, Matt and Tim while being joined by a range of new placement students and full time staff in the form of Phil, Sarah, Dean, Pankaj and Vickie.
August

August saw us develop and launch Biker Blast-Off! in partnership with Suzi Perry for the Gadget show which went on to achieve 1.5 million downloads on the iPhone before the show aired in September.

We also launched an extra content package for Must.Eat.Birds and announced we had reached Beta on our on-going internal project Steamweavers, a turn based strategy game we are developing alongside our commercial projects for multiple platforms including Facebook and the iPhone.
September

In September we launched the Sonic Level Editor, a project we had been working on with Sega over the past year. It was awesome to see it go live on PlaySega and play some of the fantastic levels being created.

We also saw the launch of Amateur Ninja, our latest epic gaming adventure for Adultswim. The features 11 huge levels and many hours of stealthy gaming goodness.

September also saw us celebrate our fourth birthday with a party in London involving lots of cake, games and fun tiems.
October

October saw our TV debut on the gadget show as our work went live and the competition result was announced. We watched the results unfold in the office with curry and beers. In addition we also paid a brief visit to Brighton to speak at the Flash on the Beach Conference.
October also saw the arrival of a new intern - Shabeer, Platforms developer - Gabor and the start of development on a number of very exciting internal projects, to be announced in January 2010!
November

The big launch of November was 'Woody's Big Escape', an original point and click Toy Story game for Disney and Pixar. We aso welcomed Julius to the team as an Intern.
Apart from this November was quiet month - we had our heads down working on some awesome new games projects!
December

The month of December saw the return of our annual decoration competition in the office with the aptly named 'Team Ceiling Cat' taking the top prize with the closest competition result yet.

We also launched the Official Minigame for the Vancouver Olympics in partnership with Sega and the IOC on Facebook and the official website.
To wrap up the year Amateur Surgeon Christmas launched on the iPhone for free and headed straight to the top of the charts in the US.
Looking Forward
We've got big things planned for 2010 with the launch of 6 games in the first few months of the year including our very first PSP Mini and our first few Social Games.
